傳統觀念裡，女性是弱者，容易因感情問題受到傷害。但發表在美國『健康日』網站上一項最新研究發現，男性在分手後比女性更消沉、悲痛和焦慮。

根據生命時報報導，澳大利亞昆士蘭理工大學研究者對2000名戀人進行了為期5年的跟蹤調查，其中一些人步入了婚姻殿堂，一些人最終分開。在分手者中，男性更容易透過酗酒、吸毒等方式排解痛苦，男性開始下一段感情的時間平均比女性短6個月。男性還經常試圖掩飾他們的痛苦，很少向人傾訴。而分手後，女性能較好地適應關係的結束，因為她們會提前開始考慮分手的可能性以及應對方式。

此前，另一項相關研究顯示，戀愛帶給男性的幸福感相當於得到約3萬美元，大約是女性的兩倍。分手會降低男性的幸福感，讓他們變得沒自信。『在一段真誠的感情中，男人其實比女人更怕分手，也更不願意聽到這兩個字。』研究者說。
