iPad Air在大陸的首發日，除了去Apple Store購買，蘋果中國在線商店也已接受在線預訂，在線預訂目前只有WLAN版本，深空灰和銀色可選，16GB售價為3588元(以人民幣計價，以下同)，最高配置128GB售價為5688元，預計發貨時間均在24小時內。

根據36氪報導，輕薄是 iPad Air 的一大賣點：邊框窄了 43%，薄了 20%，重量不足 1 斤(輕了 28%)。iPad Air 也採用了蘋果最新的64 位 A7 處理器(配 M7 協處理器)，在性能上也有明顯提升，蘋果表示其 CPU 性能是初代 iPad 的 8 倍，GPU 性能是初代 iPad 的 72 倍。它還採用 500 萬 iSight 攝像頭(支援 1080p HD 高清影片拍攝)和 FaceTime HD 前置攝像頭。蘋果稱，由於支援新的 MIMO 802.11n，iPad Air Wi-Fi 資料傳輸速度是之前的 2 倍，但它不支援 802.11ac。
