Jim Leyland帶領老虎隊創造的光榮，告一段落，這位68歲教頭在兵敗美聯冠軍賽兩天後，宣布辭職，結束他在老虎隊8年的執教時光。

「我並不是就此退休，」Leyland在記者會說，「我只是不想再出現在休息區罷了。」

Leyland強調，球隊沒有逼他走，是他自己要離開。9月時，這位教頭就找上總經理Dave Dombrowski，雖然總經理要Leyland再帶一季，但教頭說「是時候了」，今年帶完就要告別。

在Leyland到來前，老虎隊連12年勝率未達5成，但在這位傳奇教頭領導下，8年來只有1次勝率未過半，近3年都是分區冠軍、並在2006、12年闖進世界大賽。

「這支隊伍、這段時間以來的成績，好到不敢相信，」Leyland說，「我們贏了很多場比賽，觀眾也很捧場。我到這裡來，是為了打造一支才華洋溢的隊伍，我想，我們做到了。」 (接下一頁)
