美國服裝零售商Gap 11日重挫6.71%至36.83美元，成為標普500指數當日的爐主。該公司旗下兩大品牌老海軍(Old Navy)與Banana Republic公布9月同店營收意外衰退3%，不僅令分析師眉目深鎖，也為緊接而來的美國年底銷售旺季帶來不好預兆。

全球零售龍頭沃爾瑪(Walmart Stores)9月25日也曾被爆削減供應商訂單，儘管該公司發言人以清理庫存為由否認傳聞，但由於砍單訊息傳出時機非比尋常，因此還是導致沃爾瑪股價當日下挫1.5%。

與沃爾瑪砍單事件相似，Gap業績滑落也在分析師預料之外。年底銷售額在零售業者全年業績所佔比重往往高達2至4成，是兵家必爭之地，而由於時間臨近，9月零售業績冷熱常被視為關鍵指標之一。

據MarketWatch報導，除了Gap之外，Costco、女性內衣品牌維多利亞的祕密(Victoria`s Secret)9月業績也不如預期。路透社資料顯示，9月份扣除藥妝店不計之連鎖店同店銷售額僅成長0.4%，遠低於分析師預估的3.1%。
