微軟已經向各大媒體寄出邀請函，在9月23日召開下一代Surface平板的發布會。根據之前透露的消息，這次發佈會上將會亮相兩款產品，Surface 2和Surface Pro 2，分別作為現有的Surface RT和Surface Pro的進化版，謠傳的Surface mini預計不會出現在本次發布會上。

據36氪網報導，兩款全新Surface都將配備two-stage kickstand（兩用支架），讓Surface可以兩種角度支撐在平面上，初次之外其他的設計基本跟老一代相同。Surface Pro 2將會配備Intel的Haswell處理器，此舉可以提升電池使用時間，據稱會延長兩小時。

另一款Surface 2將繼續配備Windows RT 8.1系統，不過名字中的RT給去掉了。預計Surface 2會有1080p的螢幕，Nvidia的Tegra 4處理器，電池續航時間為8小時。

參數之外，新版Surface可能會有黑白兩色以供選擇。微軟還準備了新的Power Cover配件，透過鍵盤蓋的內置電池來提升整機的使用時長，新的擴展塢配件也會一起亮相。
