《中英對照讀新聞》First 24-hour bus starts between Tokyo’s Shibuya, Roppongi 24小時公車首度行駛於東京澀谷與六本木
An all-night bus service started Dec. 21, 2013 between Shibuya and Roppongi, two Tokyo entertainment areas often filled with people partying until the early hours of the morning.
It is Japan’s first fixed route bus service that operates around the clock.
The bus service was the brainchild of former Governor of Tokyo, Naoki Inose, who resigned Dec. 19, 2013 over a money scandal. He had pushed for a 24-hour bus, pledging to "change the lifestyle in Tokyo."
Trains and subways in the capital shut down around midnight or so.
The buses make eight round trips on the Shibuya-Roppongi route between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. every Saturday. If the 24-hour service becomes popular, the Tokyo metropolitan government’s Bureau of Transportation plans to operate more night-owl bus routes.
However, a high-ranking metropolitan government official said, "As this is a project promoted by Governor Inose, there is a possibility that the next governor will stop it."
