諾貝爾和平獎今天揭曉，禁止化學武器組織（OPCW）獲此殊榮。以下為OPCW簡介：

OPCW設立於1997年，目的在撤除全球所有化學武器。敘利亞首都大馬士革郊區8月發生沙林毒氣攻擊，造成超過1400人喪命後，更加彰顯OPCW任務的重要性。

美國指摘敘利亞總統阿塞德（Bashar al-Assad）是發動毒氣攻擊的幕後黑手，對此阿塞德否認，反指敘國反抗軍才是真兇。面對美國動武懲治的威脅，阿塞德最終同意摧毀敘國化學武器的計畫，並允許OPCW武檢人員入境。

OPCW總部設在荷蘭海牙，員工人數約500人，年度預算不及1億美元。

擁有189個成員國的OPCW表示，敘利亞相當配合，如果獲得敘國內戰各派支持，OPCW能在2014年年中時銷毀敘國所有化武。
